Wearable Art Choice

Spend the morning learning more about the tradition of Shibori & wonders of natural plant dyes. Together along with textile artist, Chelsea Thompson, of Earthencolor, we will create wearable art. In this "bring you own" class, we will dive into the history of natural dyes, prepare your fabric, and learn how to process kitchen waste to yield a range of color that can be used to bring new life to a piece in your wardrobe that might need a little refresh! We will learn basic shibori techniques to create striking “tie dye” patterns and go over the use of modifiers post-dye to widen the range of potential color results!

Bring your own guidelines: Natural dyes are the perfect way to completely reimagine a piece or hide staining. Any light colored fabric made of a natural fiber will work; so think cotton, linen, wool, or silk, even rayon (a regenerated cellulose fiber) will dye well. Blends may dye on a case by case basis, generally a polyester content of 15% or less will be ok. Please consider the size of your item you may want to bring; table linens, pillowcases, shirts, any other small item will work! Anything bulky (ie. jeans or jackets) will take up too much space in the dye pot. Feel free to email Chelsea at chelsea@earthencolor.com if you have any questions regarding fabric content or the size of your item. Add on purchase available if you would prefer to dye a silk bandana scarf or pillowcase!

We will have the perfect atmosphere for strengthening your relationship with nature & moving you along your slow fashion journey.
